This photo shows my toes (actually not looking as angry, red or weeping as they did at various points) after I had my feet in a foot spa for too long (about 40mins) and then exercised on them later in the day (about 2 hours walking around village hall).
Idea of foot spa was to stimulate the feet, but water was a mistake as it softened up the skin too much resulting in four blisters. Paralysis always makes these common problems a little more irksome. My (sci) experience of blisters and any skin problem in the past is treat with extreme respect, as infections are easy to come by and take a lot more dealing with. In this case I took the precaution of seeing a specialist dressings nurse and getting them to heal up quickest.
THE REAL POINT of mentioning all this is to do with my progress. This apparent set back forced me to keep the pressure off my toes so that they could heal in the quickest time, making me do other exercises instead. These other exercises are ones I needed to do but neglected because of my single-mindedness on walking (walking was where I had recently been enjoying excitement and progress). However, doing these other exercises brought on a series of new changes that are equally important to my walking, the increasing tension and muscle mass in my legs, the connection to muscles and sensation, and the ability to pull and control.
Actually, the temporary change in exercising schedule - seemingly tedious as it was at the time - has done me a few favours, as shown in the more recent videoclips.
Reinforces the same old little lesson for me: that there is little point being frustrated. Things happen and usually there is good behind them, so long as I keep working and don't worry.
